well, i`m not sure what is a proper answer for your question.
Realistic lighting definitely comes from properly painted overall values.
To catch the proper atmosphere i study a lot of photos and movie screens and apply it to my pieces,
not sure if that was helpful,
if you have any questions, don`t hesitate to ask me!

yeah it is kind of inspired by Mass Effect.
i`m not sure if i`ll post these seperately, these are quite rough ones,
